RMT Myofascial Release (MFR)
John F. Barnes, a Physiotherapist based in Sedona, Arizona, has been teaching this gentle form of Myofascial Release since the early 1970’s. MFR is an individualized manual therapy that addresses the person as a whole. Through postural evaluation and assessment, the skilled application of sustained pressures and mindful movement, the body/mind finds balance and begins to heal.
Benefits of John F. Barnes Myofascial Release
Pain Relief: Experience freedom from chronic pain as MFR helps alleviate tension, reduce
inflammation, and restore optimal function.

Increased Flexibility and Strength: Releasing restrictions in the fascia enhances your body's range of motion, promoting better flexibility and mobility, allowing your muscles to perform optimally.
Emotional Release: Fascial restrictions can store emotional trauma. MFR allows for emotional healing by releasing these stored emotions.

Improved Posture and Alignment: By addressing fascial imbalances, MFR can correct postural issues, relieving strain on joints and muscles.

Stress Reduction: As tension is released, your body relaxes, leading to an overall reduction in perceived stress levels and an improved sense of well-being.
Fascia is a specialized system that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web. It is very densely woven, covering and infusing every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ down to the cellular level. It is continuous from head to toe without interruption and gives us our form. When healthy, fascia is pliable and fluid, able to withstand reasonable forces and hold the body in proper alignment. The fascial system functions as a fiber-optic network that provides each cell with information, energy, light, sound, nutrition, oxygen, biochemicals and hormones and flushes out toxins at an enormous speed; it is theorized that our consciousness flows through the fascial system. Fascia is a super highway. When restricted, fascia hardens and dehydrates, not only causing a blockage in the highway—but pulling into healthy tissue creating pain and dysfunction in areas distant from the restriction.

Myofascial restrictions can produce a pressure of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain-sensitive structures. This creates the feeling of a straight jacket of pressure in the body. Consciously, and even subconsciously, we avoid positions that cause pain and develop dysfunctional movement patterns—reinforcing existing and creating new fascial restrictions. The stresses of everyday life add to this tension. Trauma, whether physical or emotional, can leave us on high alert—unable to rest and heal. This can lead to symptoms such as insomnia, chronic pain, low immunity and vitality; eventually leading to diagnoses such as fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, etc. Most often no cause can be found as fascial restrictions do not show up on standard tests, and patients are only offered treatment for their symptoms—never getting to the root cause.

MFR brings your awareness back into your body allowing you to release deeply held beliefs, holding patterns, emotions and physical restrictions—bringing you back into balance and allowing you to truly heal. Often, people who have “tried everything” or been told by doctors “there is nothing more we can do” will find relief through MFR.
